1. What is communication?

Communication is the process of sharing information between two or more persons.

2. What is communication cycle?

Communication cycle is the process in which sender sends a message to another person and receiver acknowledges and sends back a response.

3. What are elements of communication cycle?

Different elements of communication cycle are:

  1. Sender: Person who shares the information.
  2. Message: Information to be shared.
  3. Encoding: It refers to how sender wants to send message.
  4. Channel: It is the medium through which message is sent.
  5. Receiver: Person who receives the information.
  6. Decoding: It refers to how receiver interprets the message.
  7. Feedback: It is the response given by the receiver.

4. What are different methods of communication?

There are 4 methods of communication

  • Verbal
  • Written
  • Non verbal
  • Visual

5. What is verbal communication?

Information is shared by speaking.

6. What is written communication?

Information is shared by using written words. Example: Books, Newspaper

7. What is non-verbal communication?

Information is shared by using body language, gestures, tone or pitch

8. What is visual communication?

Information is shared by using  images, maps, charts, diagrams, films, posters, books etc

9. What are advantages of verbal communication?

  • Faster method of communication
  • Instant feedback
  • Interactive method
  • Straight forward method to express feelings

10. What are limitations of verbal communication?

  • Not possible to represent things officially
  • Emotional barriers
  • Not a complete form of communication
  • It needs proximity

11. What are advantages of written communication?

  • Permanent storage
  • Legally valid
  • Easy to reuse
  • Suitable for lengthy messages

12. What are limitations of written communication?

  • Expensive
  • Time consuming
  • Language barrier

13. What are advantages of non-verbal communication?

  • Easy to demonstrate
  • Very fast
  • Easy to reuse
  • No language barrier

14. What are limitations of non-verbal communication?

  • Not suitable for lengthy messages.
  • Incomplete form of communication.
  • Chances of misinterpretation.

15. What are advantages of visual communication?

  • It assists other forms of communication.
  • Things can be explained easily.
  • Easy to reuse.
  • No language barrier
