Data Acquisition Phase | CBSE Class 10 AI Project Cycle Notes – 3
1. What do you mean by Data acquisition? What is its purpose?
Data acquisition is the process to gather data according to requirements defined in problem scoping phase.
2. What activities are carried out during Data acquisition phase?
i. Standard form of data is extracted from dissimilar sources of data.
ii. Data is produced in the most appropriate form.
3. What is the role of data in an AI project?
Data is very important for an AI project to behave intelligently because AI application is trained and tested using data only.
4. What do you mean by data set? what is its another name?
Data set is a collection of data related to a common theme or topic. It is also known as database.
5. What do you mean by data features? Give examples
Data feature is an individual measurable property or characteristics of a data object.
For example colour, mileage and power are features of a car.
6. What are different characteristics of quality data?
OR
What are different qualities of data?
Accuracy, Completeness, Reliability, Relevance, Timeliness.
7. What do you mean by accuracy of data?
It specifies that the given data is correct.
8. What do you mean by completeness of data?
It means that the data is comprehensive and complete according to the requirement.
9. What do you mean by reliability of data?
It means that the data has been collected from trusted resources.
10. What do you mean by relevance of data?
It means that data is relevant or important as per the given project.
11. What do you mean by timeliness of data?
It specifies that the data is up to date as per the requirement.
12. List some commonly used sources of data collection.
Most commonly used data resources are interviews, surveys, observations, web scrapping, sensors cameras, Internet, Problem reports etc.
13. List some examples of situations where these data sources would be most suitable.
a) Sensors: They are suitable for measuring temperature of an instrument, level of water tank, blood pressure, heart beat rate, body temperature of humans etc.
b) Cameras: Traffic violations, product designs, crowd monitoring
c) Interview: To know experience of people, to know about views of people on a topic, to take feedback.
d) Problem Reports: Medical report to know about a person’s chances of diseases in near future, to know about problems in electronic gadgets.
e) Survey: To know about people’s choices among a list of choices, People’s view on a specific topic by using set of predefined questions.
14. How did you determine data features for your data?
Data features for data can be determined by the nature of data you want to analyze.
For example, to know about social media habits of people, data features would be social media posts, social media platforms and time etc. Similarly, to know about money saving habits of people, data features like income, inflation rate, average spending, average saving etc. are required.
15. What are different types of data used in AI projects?
There are two types of data used in AI projects.
i. Structured data:
This type of data is numerical in nature and it is easy to define relationship among data. It is purposefully designed according to existing data model. It does not need any preprocessing for analyzing it
ii. Unstructured data:
This type of data is non-numerical in nature and it is difficult to define relationship among data. Pictures, videos, sounds and texts are examples of unstructured data. It needs extra pre-processing before analysing it.
16. Why should data be collected from reliable sources?
Data should be collected from reliable sources because it may generate bias or may create ethical issues in the result.
17. Why should internet be avoided as a data collection source?
Internet should be avoided as a data collection source because of the following reasons
i. The accuracy of data cannot be proved.
ii. Data cannot be directly taken as it may be copyright protected.
18. What must be ensured before taking down data from internet?
i. The source of data must be authentic and reliable.
ii. Data must be licensed for public use.
19. List some government sites that can be used for data collection.
i. www.data.gov.in
ii. www.india.gov.in
iii. censusindia.gov.in
